This is the XWidget version of the Steampunk Volume widget that you could certainly use on your desktop. It is a lovely piece of eye-candy as well as being useful on your desktop. This is one of a small set of icons/widgets for your desktop, the others are a typical set of Victorian desktop acoutrements. You can control the volume level of your PC desktop by moving the slider or clicking on the mute button. Double-clicking on the widget will cause a personalised Windows application to fire up. The first time you run it there will be no assigned function and so it will state as such - then it will pop up the preferences so that you can enter the command of your choice. The widget takes command line-style commands for windows.

The widget functionality is self-explanatory, tinker with it and you will soon get to grips with it, you can't do any harm. Think of it as a bit of steampunk eye-candy with a useful function.

Click on the slider and drag it to the left or right and the system volume will increase/decrease.
Click on the mute button and the system sound will mute.

If you change any of the system's sound settings using any other tools the widget will detect this and make changes to the slider accordingly.

It can be resized as you wish.

This widget and the others like it will spruce up your desktop and give it a bit of Victorian class. Full instructions can be found here: http://lightquick.co.uk/instructions-fo ... Itemid=264

Thanks ever so...

I have converted it from a yahoo widget so things are done the YWE! way rather than the Xwidget way of doing things. The code is 90% the same as the YWE! code and they function almost exactly the same.

A trial for porting my other YWE! widgets.

I left out some code when debugging and I will put that back in shortly (the cancel button on the prefs) a couple of other bugfixes and I'll drop the new version in here - done.

Thankyou Meme. All complements appreciated. If you don't mind me shamelessly plugging my latest video... this is the weather widget I am planning to convert: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Z_IO5Q2RSs0

Just updated this one http://lightquick.co.uk/downloads/steampunk-volume-xwidget.html?Itemid=264

Image
Changes - Added code to bring the whole widget to the front when the prefs or the 'about' menu items are selected, after displaying the widget goes back to the previous zorder. Added about us plaque and the code to control it. Added missing menu items as per the nixie XWidget. Updated to synch old and new code and to separate the slider mousemove code from the normal drag code - working much better. Modified to bind the mute indicator to the volume core in order to show the mute state without using the timer. Also, modified to allow mouse wheel control.

Should be better all round...

** NEW VERSION 1.0.3 **

Added code to allow the widget to be locked by clicking on the left stanchion. The direction of the mousewheel can now be defined. Also, licence code has been added, accessed via the menu. This brings the functionality into line with the old Konfabulator widget of the same name.

Image

Instructions for the widget are here:
http://lightquick.co.uk/instructions-for-the-steampunk-volume-xwidget.html?Itemid=264

I still like the old Konfabulator engine version here:
http://lightquick.co.uk/downloads/steampunk-volume-widget.html?Itemid=264

Image

but I am converting just a few of my old widgets to the Xwidget engine. Bringing them up to date and becoming familiar with the designer, learning how to avoid its failures and issues. The IDE is meant to speed things up not slow things down... :)

If you like this widget do let me know!

You can see the widget top right on this screenshot, in fact I have two of them, one is the Konfabulator version and the other is the Xwidget, they are in practical terms identical in operation but the Xwidget version works better with NT6 systems, Vista - Win10.
