Post subject: | FEATURE REQUEST: netMonitor Boolean network availability |
This post is a request for more information from the netMonitor Core. I am used to being able to extract information pertaining to the state of the wireless traffic, for example: system.wireless.available Description The available attribute returns a Boolean true/false value that corresponds to the availability of the wireless device capable of connecting to a network. This functionality is not available in Xwidget From a glance as to what the netMonitor core has to offer it seems that it has no %false or %true tag and does not differentiate between wireless and LAN networks. The request is to provide such information as part of the netmonitor core. I am trying to enable the red/green lamps on this widget to signify wireless connectivity/disconnect state in this widget: ![]() |

The best way to check Internet availability is to do a http request to a website. Even the net monitor doesn't work for me anymore. I do virtualization and I have a virtual network that starts up at boot time. Xwidget always monitors the virtual traffic. |

Very good idea of course, just a bit of an overhead to call a timer to run an http request, then check it for validity. That could take valuable time/processor and could return an icorrect value on occasion. I just think a call to the core (that should be doing the check on a regular interval anyway) would be more efficient and a lot more elegant. I often compare Xwidget to other engines and see what exactly it is lacking. |
