Just this morning I've encountered a weird issue with the weather data only partially updating on Android. The below image (from a previous thread: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4270) illustrates the issue:
http://bbs.xwidget.com/download/file.php?id=3059&mode=view

Here's what I'm observing:
  • The current Wind Speed and current short description (eg, "Cloudy" in the above image) are both coming through fine on Android (though I'm not 100% sure that the Wind Speed data is correct). But temperatures, etc. are not. The few pieces of data that are being displayed do change over time, so data is being pulled down from the server.
  • One thing that is interesting about the above is that the variable that is working correctly (ie, "${curSimpleWeatherIcon}" returns a word value. I don't know which Wind Speed variable is used in the Detail screen (and which seems to be returning a value), but perhaps it is one which contains letters as well? This makes me wonder if the potential bug in Android XWidget has to do with the weather variables that are numbers?
  • This problem is on two different Android devices, but my Windows 7 desktop pulls down (and displays) all the weather data just fine. So it seems like the weather server is working just fine.
  • I've tried re-adding the widget in Android but it doesn't make any difference.
  • I also tried adding a different widget in Android, but the result is the same.
  • Rebooting my Android device had no effect either.

Any thoughts on what might be going on?

Also, I would suggest that the backend code somehow check for the validity of the weather data, and not purge the old data until it believes the new data is complete, etc. I would rather still have yesterday's data (and least be able to see future days [as of yesterday]) than ending up with basically no usable data at all.

Thanks for any help!

This is an isuue with the communication with the accuweather server.. So it's up to their servers, it's a temp problem and it will be resolved soon. Some times happened to the pc version too. The dev fixed this with the latest version, but seems that on Android uses a different mechanism..

What's weird though is that some data is being pulled down and displayed, so it's not a total breakdown in the connection (and it can't be a server failure since the Windows version is pulling the correct data down for the same location at the same time). So is it that the Android app somehow fails at accessing all the server data (ie, it gets stuck on most of it, but is able to pull/parse a small portion)?

Also, if you could flag/forward my feature request to the dev that would be awesome:

I understand that hiccups are going to happen with accessing the weather data (eg, the stock Samsung weather widget on my tablet went through a period where it would get stuck for days!), but it would super-helpful if XWidget kept the previous data instead of replacing it with mostly-empty data.

Thanks! :)

Temperature data hasn't been coming through all day (17 June) here in the UK, nor have weather forecasts beyond the current day, although it was all working fine for the Android app yesterday evening. Has this communication problem with Accuweather started again?

Yeah, I'm seeing the same thing. I'm in the US. It'll probably resolve itself within the next 24-48 hours. It's annoying though.
