The app just updated today and installed a couple extensions into Chrome for me without my consent as well as changing the home page.

I understand you have to make money and hosting isn't free, but CNet is slimey, and it hurts your name to be associated with their malware installers.

I won't be updating again as long as CNet is the only way to download the update.

Also, that is the hardest Captcha I have ever seen.

hi, I am very sorry to hear that. But the addsion third part software is Option, you need click "Decline" button and uncheck them.

And You can download the Portable Version: http://www.xwidget.com/download2.php

The third party crap is not optional, I read through it carefully and still got 4 programs infecting my computer after.

The mobile version would fix the issue, assuming it isn't hosted by some slimeball company as well. Why not host the installer yourself and disassociate with CNET?

There is additional crapware beyond that that gets installed anyway. I'll just move on to another product, or none at all.

I agree but my solution to this is...
Just disconnect while installing... no crapware will be downloaded or installed but xwidget will be installed fine. :D

I went with Nimi Places instead. Free and doesn't install any crap. I was considering buying Fences 2, but this issue turned me away from it.

edit: In this reply I thought this was a reply to my similar issue with Stardock Fences 2. Both xwidget and fences have the same problem though, hosted with CNet so infected with malware.

I moved on to RainMeter rather than xwidget, and Nimi Places rather than Fences 2. Hope this helps someone.

The only case I prefer XWidget over Rainmeter is it's resource usage... XWidget is tons less demanding than Rainmeter.
